FATE OF THE JEDI
by M. Graham

SUMMARY: So what if Amidala had married Obi-Wan, not Anakin? What if Luke And Leia were Obi-Wan's children, not Anakin's? Would they have lasted as long  as they did? Or would Vader and the Empire have been victorious?

DISCLAIMER: This piece of fan fiction was written by me for other Star Wars fans.
I lay no claim to any of the characters, plots, storylines or situations in the
Star Wars Universe, all of which were and are created by George Lucas. I intend
no infringement, I merely wish to add my piece to this great, unlimited galaxy.
Thanks George Lucas for creating this great Trilogy (and Prequels, those that are
and soon to come!), you've made our lives a little brighter. If you're going to
print, save or send my work, please ensure that I get credit for the idea that
I came up with.
Thank-you!!!!

This story is dedicated to my mother, Glenda, who believed that I could write
a story good enough for a fan-fiction site; And also for Breanna Downie, who
read my work and told me what she thought of it, honestly, without saying
'Burn it, burn it!' like others I know did. Anyway, thanks to both of you,
(Even though, Bre, I know you don't like the plot of this one much!)

Obi-Wan held the bundle gently, afraid to hurt it. He smiled nervously at his
wife.
"A son!" He whispered, marvelling at the tiny, yet perfectly formed fingers and
hands reaching towards him.
"And a daughter, Obi-Wan." Amidala smiled at her husband's wonderment.
"Luke and Leia." He tested the sound of the names of his newborn children.
"Luke was Anakin's middle name, and Leia was my mother's name." He smiled
softly at his son, though sadly at the memory of his old, dear friend, now
turned from the path he'd tried so hard to keep him from. Luke began to cry
softly, as though feeling the pain of his father's thoughts. Obi-Wan shushed
his son, brushing his downy, blonde curls out of his piercing blue eyes.
'He looks so much like Anakin!' He thought, wincing once more at those
memories now past. Obi-Wan shook himself mentally, then gazed at his daughter,
sleeping peacefully in her mother's arms. Leia looked like her mother,
he surmised. The same beautiful brown hair, and the very same brown eyes,
just as soul-revealing as her mothers, which were opening to gaze unflinching
at her father, as if, like Luke, she could feel his thoughts. Obi-Wan looked up
and smiled at his wife.
"Amidala, these children will be Jedi. The last Jedi. They will control our fate."
Then he turned back to the twins.
"Luke and Leia Kenobi."

Obi-Wan looked back upon that pristine memory, one that was so pure and light.
Anakin, though, had destroyed it all. Since Obi-Wan's and Amidala's wedding
day-which the Jedi Council had also disapproved of-Anakin's anger had burned
low within him; he thought that he loved Amidala, but it was actually more or
less that he'd wanted her to love him, and if he couldn't have her, then Obi-Wan
certainly couldn't. The fire that fed his hate was a black, enraged flame that
none even Anakin himself, could destroy. So, when Obi-Wan had gone to visit his
friend, Bail Organa on Alderaan, with his six-year-old twins, Anakin had searched
out Amidala and killed her, along with her five handmaidens, who tried to defend
her, finally and fully giving his soul to the dark side. Only Eirtae had survived
long enough to tell him Anakin's last threat.
"He said that he'd kill you, and the twins as well." She told him with the last
of her strength, just before she herself died. Then Obi-Wan sought him out, and
killed him. Or so he thought.

"Father?" Obi-Wan was startled out of his reverie.
"Yes, Luke?" His son was now twenty years old, nearing the completion of
his Jedi training.
"Your mind was elsewhere."
"I know. Always be wary of doing that. Yoda always said to be mindful of the future,
but Qui-Gon always responded, 'but not at the expense of the moment.'" Luke nodded.
"Your thoughts weren't focused on the future, though." Luke grinned sheepishly at
being caught invading his Father's thoughts. Obi-Wan smiled.
"I was thinking of your Mother." He replied.
"And Leia?" Luke asked. Obi-Wan nodded. Luke and Leia knew of each other's
existence, Obi-Wan would not have had it any other way. Leia was on a diplomatic
mission; she had worked hard to follow in her mother's footsteps and follow a
political career. But she had not neglected her training, either, and was as
competent as Luke was with the Force. She had finally received a position in the
now almost worthless Senate; but was a leader of the young and newly rising Rebel
Alliance-as was Luke and Obi-Wan.

Naboo had been the centre of the up rising, and was also a wonderful place to
train Jedi; peaceful, quiet, and generally undisturbed by outsiders, and the Empire.
But they were disturbed now, by a Force-flung cry.
'Father, Luke!' Obi-Wan sent back a thought to his daughter.
'What is it, Leia?'
'Anakin Skywalker. He's here, and he's now a Sith. He and Palpatine have built a
space station, capable of planetary annihilation. They call it the Death Star.
We're all in great danger! Help me, please!' Then . . . nothing.
"Father?" Luke was crying, searching for the presence of his sister that he would
never find.
"She's dead, Luke. Anakin vowed to kill us all. And he would also kill any Jedi
he found." He was having trouble fighting back his own tears. His only link, only
reminder of Amidala, was now gone.
"Shall we go to try and avenge this?" Obi-Wan gritted his teeth.
"Yes."

In the halls and passageways of the Death Star, the two Jedi hurried to find Vader,
cloaked from all by the Force. But he was waiting. Before them, he was tall and
menacing, almost all machine, the result of the fateful duel between him and Obi-Wan
almost fourteen years before.
"So, Master, you try to pit your own children against me? Imagine, Kenobi. They
could have been mine." Obi-Wan shook his head.
"You still bear that grudge, Anakin?" Anakin hissed.
"That is no longer my name, Jedi. I left that behind, along with my past. Prepare
to die, Obi-Wan Kenobi." Vader ignited the blood-red blade of his lightsabre, and
brought it down to meet Obi-Wan's blue one. Luke quickly ignited his green one.
Vader laughed, a hideous sound, mangled by the mask and breathing apparatus that
sustained his life.
"Pretty, boy. Your sister's lavender one was also very nice. It was also a very
efficient weapon." Luke strangled his overwhelming urge to scream.
"Luke, stay out of this." Obi-Wan and Vader were soon pitted in battle, both
equal, both determined to win. But finally, Vader's prolonged training, and his
endurance won the battle for him, and as he sliced through the Jedi master; his
clothes fluttering, empty, to the ground. Vader glanced up to see Luke's look of
despair.
"Join me, boy. There is great power in the dark side!" Luke shivered at the prospect.
"I will never join you. I would not betray my father and sister like that."
"So, then, famous Luke Kenobi, you've made your choice. Therefore, prepare to die, as
well."
"I will avenge them." 'He's so much like Obi-Wan!'  Vader thought. Once more, he ignited his blade.
Luke parried the first blow. After a few minutes, though, Vader grew tired of amusing
the boy. He was good, certainly, but not as good as he. Calling on the dark side, Vader
parried a blow, then cut off the boy's wielding arm. The scream of pain that echoed
through the Force actually hurt Vader. And that was the final straw. Luke was on his
knees, clutching his severed stump.
"Now you can join your Father and sister, Luke Kenobi." Anger welled within Darth Vader. Then he divided the boy into two, neat halves. He called in some stormtroopers.
"Dispose of this. Now is the time to crush this weak and pitiful Rebellion!" And he
strode out of the room, having finally and completely given his last shred of light
over to the dark. Vader smiled under his grotesque mask.
"The fate of the Jedi is complete. And they are now extinct. My argument with Obi-Wan
is settled, and I have the location of the Rebel base. Your daughter was strong,
Obi-Wan, but not that strong. Master Palpatine will be proud. Finally, our dominion
over the galaxy-and the Sith over the Jedi-is complete!"

I hope you like it. Thanks to those out there who wrote their own fan fiction, and
inspired me to write my own.
