"From the personal memoirs of Voren
Na’al"
interview of
Jonac Salen
(roleplaying character back story)
“Well, first and foremost I want
to thank the members of the Rebel
Command for considering my application for
membership in the Rebel
Alliance. I, of course, understand your skepticism and caution. So
I will tell
you how it is I came to be before you today.
As you have already
noticed, I am only half human, a halfbreed, not
truly of any one race. I grew up on the planet Kentos, a small planet
situated
in the shipping lanes. It has made its fortune as a stopover for those
on their
way out towards the rim planets. I remember it as
a busy place filled with
ships, refuelling stations, repair docks, cantinas and various
trading posts. A
great place to earn a living working in one of the countless shops
that dot its
busy streets, or meet fascinating people as they had their ships repaired
and
refuelled. That is where my mother met Neztor, a
handsome Falleen on his
way back to the core worlds. He stayed a short time but they
planned for her
to come with him to his home world. So she did to give birth
to her fist born
child. A year later, still on Falleen she gave birth to a second
son. As her two
boys began to grow, they showed little signs of their father’s heritage
and he
quickly became disgusted with my
mother and her two weak
human
children. He moved on to other more intriguing lovers
and my mother fled
heartbroken back to Kentos two raise her two sons.
Our lives were quiet for the most part
until I decided that Kentos had
become too small for me and
my brother. I wanted to be more
than a
shopkeeper or a mechanic, I wanted to
make my mother proud for all that
she had done for us as children. So when my
brother and I reached age I
convinced him to join the Imperial Academy with me. At
the time it was not
the corrupt institution it is now, merely a way for a young man to
accomplish
something worthwhile in his life. My mother,
however, was not wholly
in favor, cautioning us because of the rummers
that were rapidly
spreading of Palpitine’s dislike of non-humans.
But I was headstrong
and not to be deterred. After all,
our own father had deserted us
because we looked completely human save for the exotic
bone structure of
our faces.
My brother and I quickly made our way up through
the ranks. A life of
hard labor had made us very strong and agile, and I eventually made
full Royal
Guard. I had my misgivings about serving so
closely with Palpatine, for his
many atrocities were known to me. But
one thought of the pride on my
mother’s face silenced all of my misgivings. I had only
served for less than a
year when my Falleen ancestry began to manifest itself. I began
to notice that
my skin would turn quite a warm orange tone whenever I let my feelings
get
away from me.
| After each episode my skin would not return to its
normal hue. Instead it would get a little deeper in color, have a
little more olive in its undertones. This continued for some time
until my superiors began to notice that it was no
longer a human tone at all, but
rather it had become a noticeable blue/green tone.
I imagine that it was either Vader or Palpitine himself who gave the order. Feeling that an alien had deceived them they sent assassins to my quarters late one night. I was lucky that I had already had my suspicions and had been partially prepared. My brother, however was not. He was away on a mission at the time, but Palpatine’s black will knows no boundaries. He did not escape as I did. I failed to warn him in time, for this I will never forgive myself. So this is why I have come to you. I want to see the demise of the Empire, to avenge my brother’s death. I have heard of your acceptance of aliens, even half-breeds like me. I have since learned to accept and control the Faleen aspects in myself. And I wear the armor as a constant reminder of the death I led my brother to. |
